News July/ August 2016

We relocated our yacht “Kolibri” to the island Leros in Greece. After farewell from Tina and her star-yachting.com team, who have been taken care of Kolibri for the last two years, we were a bit concerned about what to expect or if we find everything necessary for our Kolibri.
It was time to change the territory and set off to see something new; a rolling stone gathers no moss.
Now we are in the middle of Dodekanes. In 2000 we were the first time in Leros and felt good to be there. The island is easily accessible and there are daily ferry connections to various islands, for example Kos and Rhodos. Certainly, there is also a ferry connection to Piraeus, which has a small airport with a connection to Athen.
The island has a good infrastructure and, as far as we know, we are not missing anything. The island itself is worth visiting, because there are small bays, nice typical taverns, small hotels/guest houses, a castle and lots of museums, which complement the tourism offers.
Leros disposes of two shipyards and two small marinas, equipped with nearly everything you need for the daily work on the ship.
On the marinas or roadstead you find nearly no yachts to charter, so it is very quiet in this area. The yachties come from all over the world, a tittle-tattle here, a tittle-tattle there, most of the time they talk about who fixes what, who is on the way and where, how much which berth costs and where everybody meets for sundowner.
Leros is a good starting point for sailors. In the summer the wind arrives primary from the north, so it was not easy to turn up from Marmaris. Sailing against the wind is interesting for a short time, but not permanently. Starting from Leros we have half wind to the Cyclades no matter if it comes from the north or the south. Like these small Cyclades islands like Donoussa, Schinoussa, but also Paros and Naxos can be reached easily. North of Leros are more famous islands like Patmos, Samos, and about 40 SM south there is the island Kos.
You can find photos of the relocation from Marmaris to Leros in our gallery.

News 2016

The winter was very exciting for our sailing yacht, Kolibiri. Tina and her team worked hard. It is incredible how much work there is to do. Certainly the underwater ship got cleaned up completely and covered with an antifouling material.
The masts were painted and the hull burnished. The mainsail and the Besan Fock are new - thus the Kolibri has seven canvas, leading to higher speed.
The thick cushions on the foreship got a new fixture and so they are securely fixed even in strong winds; the baseboard, which was faded by the sun, has red color again, furthermore there is a red sprayhood.
The motor was lifted out of the ship’s hold, completely overhauled and newly painted, likewise the generator got lifted out and is fit for the next years.
Eight new batteries are on board to make sure, that there is enough electricity on board. New fly screens and fans make living on board comfier and the stereo equipment got extended with a subwoofer- it is surely nice to have a good sound on the yacht.
For the fitness, there is a SUP-Board (company: STARBOARD). Stand Up Paddling (SUP) is a new water sport trend. Studies show, that this Sport is one of the best workouts and that it increases more strength than the training in the fitness studio. So get on to the Kolibiri and learn how to surf and get fit in 2016.
Our new workshops are on management training, conflict management, stress management, teambuilding and photographic coaching. We succeeded in gaining two professionals for our workshops.
2016 will be a great year for sure with new impressions, time to reflect and relax.
A SPECIAL CRUISE ON A SPECIAL BOAT WITH SPECIAL PEOPLE IN THE TURKISH AND GREEK ÄGÄIS ON THE KOLIBRI.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
Mark Twain
Dear reader -do you know this situation: You close your eyes, lay back- suddenly you are indefinitely far away, completely relaxed. Markus enabled me to pass the first sailing trip of my life on this extraordinary cruiser.
The “Kolibri” is a swell fascinating me from the first moment. If you enter the cruise, you will notice the high quality, elaborate and solid processing. The sterling and complete equipment transmits safety and high comfort. Impressive is the Code 0 canvas with an extent of 180 m²- even some flats are small in comparison.
A range of electronic devices ensures a save, relaxing and demanding experience.
Despite sixteen tons of weight the “Kolibri” is dainty, fast and flexible and the name is very well chosen- the hummingbird is allocated in the animal world as swiftlet.
The perfect supplement for this princess of the sea is the suitable captain- Markus is perfect for this position. His positive attitude, longstanding sail experience and his knowledge lead to a calm presence, which influences every guest on board and causes a strong feeling of safety. Everyone feels happy and welcome, because everyone can see that Markus knows his boat very well.
Eventually a cruise like “Kolibri” needs an appropriate care and maintenance- she receives this in her hailing port in Leros.
In seven days I experienced a rarity of fulminate impressions- it was very nice and liberating to feel the air of the sea, to see the fascinating atmosphere looking till the horizon.
Two unique persons have enriched my life on board: on one hand Toni “Tonerle”- a fascinating personality and wonderful interlocutor. By his helpfulness and his relentless commitment, he qualified from 0 to 100 as the first mate. Because he took care of the kitchen from the first day on and embellished our life with delightful treats, we awarded him as the “Kolibri-Chef”. On the other hand Markus- a passionate sailor with a deep personality and charisma. His vital energy is tremendous contagious and a real benefit.
I had the opportunity to solve a knot and to realize my dreams. Therefore the upper quote by Mark Twain fits perfectly to my starting situation.
Markus and Toni- the time I spent with you, means a lot for me. In life there are special moments, which cannot be described by words. And I was lucky having serval such moments together with you. Thank you!

EXCELLENCE AND ENJOYMENT!
These two words immediately come to mind when one tries to describe the 7 days on board this wonderful boat with its extraordinary captain.

However, it is nearly impossible to describe this experience unless one is an especially gifted author.

Nevertheless, there are some points that can serve as a rough guide to the experience:
- A comfortable marina with first-rate personnel where one feels immediately at home
- A two-master which is enjoyable at first glance
- A captain who offers a rare connection between mature sailing experience honed over decades with a special educational talent and kindness in a way that I, at least, have never before experienced. The flexibility with which he met the conditions of the required goals, which always proved to be successful, is the result of his empathy for the potential needs of his guests.

The Kolibri itself proved to be a wonderful sailing instrument and a comfortable home in every aspect during the week. It introduced me to a new world  - a world of luxurious cabins that, especially for me, made the stay on board and the 'work' in the kitchen into absolute pleasure.

To stand on deck and to feel the inexpressibly beautiful movements of the Kolibri will stay an unforgettable memory for me.

Whoever has the opportunity to sail with this yacht will be granted a truly wonderful time.

Heartfelt,

Toni
